Golden Prey - John Sandford

Golden Prey is the 27th novel in Sanford's Prey series. Read them. Don't be one of the 33% of Americans who never read another book after they graduate from high school, or the 42% who never read another book after they graduate from college. It's like the best action adventure movie ever made, but it's in your mind.

Lucas Davenport is now a U.S. Marshal. His first case has all the elements you'd expect from Lucas, including almost getting killed. Some of the bad guys are brought to justice, Davenport style, and some get away. You can't win them all, but reading this book is a huge win. Very very highly recommended.

The Goblin Emperor - Katherine Addison

The Goblin Emperor is a stand-alone fantasy novel. That's actually too bad, because this is one fantasy I'd like to read more of.

Maia Drazhar was the only son of the fourth wife of emperor Varenechibel the Fourth, and the emperor's fourth son. Maia's mother was Chenelo Drazharan, the daughter of the Great Avar of Barizhan, the ruler of the goblin nation. That means that Maia was part goblin and part elf. That also means that Maia was essentially banished from court right after his mother died.

That all changed when the emperor Varenechibel, and his other three sons were all killed in an airship crash. Now the Untheileneise Court has a Goblin Emperor. This will take some adjusting from Untheileneise and from Maia, and lots of court intrigue and adventures along the way. This is a great story. Very highly recommended.

The Essential Sam Jameson/Peter Kittredge Box Set (novel 2) - Lars Emmerich

The Essential Sam Jameson/Peter Kittredge Box Set is seven separate thrillers. The Incident is the second novel in the set. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Sam and Brock are interrupted by Sam's boss with a call out to a murder scene. A double agent was killed, and someone from Homeland needs to be in attendance. What Sam doesn't know is that this is the start of a long and dangerous fight for her life and Brock's. Someone in Homeland, the CIA, and even the Metro Police is gunning for her. She is going to have to get them first. Very highly recommended.

Finders/Keepers - Sam Sisavath

Finders/Keepers is the third novel in the Allie Krycek Thriller series This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Allie is using her formidable skills to search for Faith. Lucy has become her partner, along with Apollo of course. Faith was kidnapped and forced to work the sex trade. Allie is getting close, but the trail leads through some rough spots. Staying alive is just as important as finding Faith, and almost harder to do. Very highly recommended.

Saint/Sinner - Sam Sisavath

Saint/Sinner is the second novel in the Allie Krycek Thriller series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

It's been two years since Allie found her sister's killer, and took care of him. It took her 10 years, but that chapter in her life is over. Allie has moved on and is getting her life together. At least she thought so. Then Allie, her boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter are kidnapped. The kidnappers think Allie is just a secretary, but Allie has skills. And she remembers how to use them. Very highly recommended.

The Operator - Kim Harrison

The Operator is the second novel in the Peri Reed Chronicles series.

Peri Reed is on her own. She runs a coffee shop now. Opti is gone, but remnants remain in the shadows. They now have a drug they claim will let drafters remember. But it comes at a price. One Peri is not sure she's willing to pay. Very highly recommended.

A Criminal Defense - William L. Myers Jr.

A Criminal Defense is a novel about murder. About defending someone from murder. But who?

Mick McFarland is a brilliant lawyer. How brilliant is about to be tested by an old friend who hires him. David Hanson is accused of killing his lover. There are twists and turns in the case that I never saw coming. And a personal journey for Mick that could be more than he can take. You will be surprised. Very highly recommended.

Sideswiped - Kim Harrison

Sideswiped is a kindle single out of the Peri Reed Chronicles series.

This is the prequel to the Peri Reed Chronicles. If you want to know how Peri thinks and why she acts, it's good to start from the beginning. Very highly recommended.

Waylaid - Kim Harrison

Waylaid is a kindle single. This novella is where the magical world of Rachel Morgan, and the time traveling world of Peri Reed collide. Excellent.

Peri Reed is tired of letting her roommate choose the entertainment. Jack is all about the magical and supernatural. Peri likes reality. Then Peri accidentally calls a demon. Rachel Morgan is the demon she gets, and Jenks tags along for the ride. That's when the fun begins. Very highly recommended.

The Drafter - Kim Harrison

The Drafter is the first novel in the Peri Reed Chronicles series.

It's the future and Peri Reed is a drafter. She's one of a rare few who can manipulate time. The problem is drafters tend to lose their minds trying to keep parallel memories straight. That's why Peri has an anchor named Jack. Anchors have the ability to get into the minds of drafters and remove those extra timelines. But something is wrong. Peri can't put her finger on it, but she has that problem with lots of memories. It seems that Jack and she may be corrupt, but Peri is sure she's not a bad agent. The journey to finding herself is long, hard, and full of action. Peri's first rule is she never kills anyone who hasn't killed her first. A great new series is born. Very highly recommended.

Silence Fallen - Patricia Briggs

Silence Fallen is book number ten in the Mercy Thompson series.

Now that Adam and Mercy are presiding over a tenuous peace of sorts in their territory they've become a target. Mercy is kidnapped by the most powerful vampire in Europe, maybe the world. Mercy manages to escape, but getting away safely will require the help of all the friends and enemies she can count on. Even some ghosts. Very highly recommended.

The Turn - Kim Harrison

The Turn is the prequel to the Hollows series.

The Hollows series explores the world, and specifically the Cincinnati area, after the silence was broken and all the supernaturals came out of the closet. If you ever wondered why that was, This is the book that tells the story. Very highly recommended.

The Witch with No Name - Kim Harrison

The Witch with No Name is the 13th and final book in the Hollows series. A series set right across the state line in Cincinnati. If you haven't been keeping up, you should start from the beginning. You won't regret it.

The situation with the elves, the demons, and the vampires is coming to a head. Rachel is doing her best to "fix" things, but it's getting out of hand. This book is suspenseful and exciting and sad all at the same time. Too bad this great series had to end. Very highly recommend.

The Essential Sam Jameson/Peter Kittredge Box Set (novel 1) - Lars Emmerich

The Essential Sam Jameson/Peter Kittredge Box Set is seven separate thrillers. Fallout is the first novel in the set. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Sam Jameson is an agent for Homeland Security. On Sam's last mission she died. Fortunately it wasn't permanent. Now Sam's been given a simple assignment. Another Homeland agent was killed in an accident in Budapest. Sam is being sent to pick up his effects and check on the case file. If only it were that simple. Pretty soon a trail of dead bodies is left behind Sam. If she's not very careful, she may die again. This is a great novel. Plenty of action and a good ending. Very highly recommended.

Fate of Perfection - K.F. Breene

Fate of Perfection is the first novel in the Finding Paradise series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Millicent Foster is way above the curve. Three clicks above the curve to be precise. Millicent is the best weapons and tech designer the Moxidone conglomerate has.

In the future, where most humans are born in the lab, Millicent is a natural born. That doesn't mean her parents weren't selected with great care, and she certainly wasn't conceived the old fashioned way, but she's a natural. Now Millicent has been selected as one of the few women allowed to bare her own child, but she won't get to keep it of course.

Motherhood can be tricky. Moxidone may have made a mistake taking someone of Millicent's abilities and turning them into a breeder. Maternal instincts can be deadly.

This is a great book. Very highly recommended.

It IS About Islam - Glenn Beck

It IS About Islam is the third book in the Control series.

Glenn Beck has presented a clear case that Islam is not a religion of peace. There will still be people who keep their heads buried in the sands of political correctness. Hopefully the rest of America can defeat Islam before their heads are chopped off. Glenn does tend to beat a dead horse, but the book is good and well referenced. Highly recommended.

No Good Deed - M.P. McDonald

No Good Deed is the first novel in the Mark Taylor Series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Mark Taylor was just a photographer. Then Mark found this old dusty camera in a bazaar in Afghanistan. The old camera would be Mark's blessing and his curse. It would take Mark a long time to realize the blessing though. This is a compelling story, but the ending is pretty bare bones. Happy, but abrupt. Highly recommended.

Weremage - Garrett Robinson

Weremage is the fifth novel in the Nightblade series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Loren is now officially the Nightblade. The High King has made it so. Her first mission is to find the traitor Damaris, and bring her to the King's justice. This is not a trivial task. And finding her doesn't mean Loren and her band can keep her. Especially when there's a traitor in their midst. Very highly recommended. The bad news is the next book in the series is not published yet.

Shadeborn - Garrett Robinson

Shadeborn is the 4th novel in the Nightblade series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

With Jordel dead, Loren and her companions are now headed to Jordel's stronghold in Feldemar. The question is if they can survive to reach it. The Shades are hunting them everywhere. Even Loren and Chet's home in the Birchwood isn't safe now. Where Loren ends up is not where she expected. But is it where the Shades expected? Very highly recommended.

Grimm - Shayne Silvers

Grimm is the third novel in the Temple Chronicles series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Nate and his friends are in the fight of their life. The Grimms are back from exile, and Nate is at the top of their kill list. When is dying not dying? Nate is about to find out again, but this time it's not him doing the dying. Silvers gets more introspective with each book. Why do so many good authors eventually fall prey to logorrhea? Highly recommended.

Fairy Tale - Shayne Silvers

Fairy Tale is a novella prequel to the Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series. It's part of a four book set available on Amazon. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Before Nate Temple was a bookseller he was a playboy with a love of books. The older and more arcane the better. Then Nate went to an auction and bid on what was purported to be the original Grimm's Fairy Tales. Turns out someone wanted that book bad enough to kill for it. More than once. Nate has to get this book before the power it holds falls into the wrong hands. Unfortunately, that already happened, so Nate's job is that much harder. Very highly recommended.

Blood Debts - Shayne Silvers

Blood Debts is the second novel in the Temple Chronicles series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Nate Temple is drunk. Drunk is not a good state to be in when dealing with the supernatural. The wizard police, otherwise known as the justices of the wizard academy, have cursed him. Nate has three days to give them the key to his parent's secret room or lose his power forever. Then there are the angels and demons that are trying to get him killed. Not to mention the four horsemen of the apocalypse are hanging around waiting for Nate to make a mistake and trigger Armageddon. There's a whole lot going on in this one. Very highly recommended.

Obsidian Son - Shayne Silvers

Obsidian Son is the first novel in the Temple Chronicles series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Nate Temple appears to be the stereotypical rich playboy. When Nate's parents are murdered he's obsessed with finding the killer. That will probably be hard on the killer, since Nate is a wizard. A strong one. Meanwhile law enforcement is looking at Nate, since he inherited about 8 billion with a 'B' dollars. Throw in some werewolves, dragons, and a few other creatures from legend, and you have a great supernatural adventure. Very highly recommended.

Darkfire - Garrett Robinson

Darkfire is the third novel in the Nightblade Epic series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Loren and her group are now outlaws in the eyes of the King and the order of Mystics. They are fleeing toward Jordel's stronghold, but were forced to take the path through the Greatrock Mountains. They encounter a force like they've not met before. Can they win past the old castle that blocks their passage, or will they finally be captured? Not everyone will survive this journey. Very highly recommended.

Mystic - Garrett Robinson

Mystic is the second novel in the Nightblade Epic series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Loren and Gem are free of the city, with the help of the mystic Jordel. They're trying to find the wizard Xain and Loren's friend Annis. The road ahead is long and dangerous. Loren can't decide who to trust besides Annis and Gem. Wizards are dangerous and so are mystics. Both Xain and Jordel have their own agenda. By horse, boat, and foot the adventure continues. Very highly recommended.

Vanquish - Bradley Wright

Vanquish is the second novel in the Xander King series.

Xander King thought he was taking revenge for his parent's killing. He was wrong. Now the real killer is still out there. Xander is determined to complete his mission. Someone is betraying him. Maybe more than one someone. Can he survive and complete his mission? Russia is a dangerous place. Xander is about to find out how dangerous. I really hate cliff hangers. Especially when the next book in the series isn't even published yet. Still, highly recommended.

Nightblade - Garrett Robinson

Nightblade is the first novel in the Nightblade Epic series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Loren is the daughter of a forester. Her parents only desire is to get as much work out of Loren as possible, and then arrange a marriage for her where the dowry is suitable. When Loren's father doesn't get the work he wants, he uses his fists for motivation. Loren wants nothing more than to escape her little village at the edge of the forest. Then a mysterious man in a blue coat goes slipping through trees and Loren decides to follow him. The man provides Loren a means to flee her life. Loren steals her parent's dagger as she's leaving, and that creates adventures she never expected. This is a great fantasy adventure. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Very highly recommended.

Whiskey & Roses - Bradley Wright

Whiskey & Roses is the first novel in the Xander King series.

Xander King is not what he seems. Xander appears to be a playboy with interests in oil, race horses, and women, not necessarily in that order. But Xander is an ex-navy seal, black ops, operative. It's only ex because Xander is working in the shadows on his own now. The CIA is desperate to recruit him. Xander is driven to get revenge for the people who murdered his parents in front of his eyes. Now he's got a target and nothing is going to stop him, except maybe a bullet. Very highly recommended.

The Castle Doctrine - Craig Schaefer

The Castle Doctrine is the sixth novel in the Daniel Faust series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Now that Daniel is officially dead, on paper anyway, he's got some room to maneuver. That's a good thing, because the Chicago mob is determined to take over Vegas, and Daniel is determined to stop them. Unfortunately, the Chicago mob has a nasty shape shifter, and Damien Ecko the necromancer on their side. Damien thinks he has a real grudge to settle with Daniel. Daniel thinks it's the other way around. It's about to get interesting. As always, Daniel Faust is the best bad guy there is. Very highly recommended.

The Last Town - Blake Crouch

The Last Town is the final novel in the Wayward Pines trilogy. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

When book two concluded, the town of Wayward Pines was being invaded by a horde of screaming abbies. This could be the end for Wayward Pines, and since Wayward Pines is home to the last remnants of humanity, the end of the human race. Ethan has his work cut out for him. Can the town be saved? How many humans will be left? All good questions that you have to read to find answers for. This is a great trilogy. The ending is quite a twist, but it may be the only real choice the people of Wayward Pines have. Very highly recommended.

Wayward - Blake Crouch

Wayward is the second novel in the Wayward Pines trilogy. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Ethan Burke is now the sheriff of Wayward Pines, but life hasn't gotten any simpler. He can't tell anyone what he knows. Even his wife Theresa. Then the first murder in Wayward Pines history, not counting fêtes, occurs. The sheriff has to investigate. Pilcher thinks it's a bunch of subversives. Ethan has to find out who murdered Alyssa and who's trying to overthrow Wayward Pines. The results are catastrophic. Very highly recommended.

Night School - Lee Child

Night School is the 21st Jack Reacher novel. This one takes place while Reacher is still a major in the army.

Reacher just got his second Legion of Merit. Now it looks like he could be working on a third. He's pulled into some kind of joint mission with the FBI and the CIA. It's got terrorists and traitors and lots of other interesting players. Wait until you find out what everyone is trying to find. Very highly recommended. Lee Child never disappoints.

The Killing Floor Blues - Craig Schaefer

The Killing Floor Blues is the fifth novel in the Daniel Faust series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

For some reason only they know, the group that hired Daniel for the job in Chicago now wants him dead. But Daniel's death has to fit a specific pattern. So Daniel finds himself framed for murder, and already in prison for life. A life that is supposed to end shortly. Getting out, and messing with the pattern is his goal. The prison guards and the warden have other plans. This one is very tense and has some killer magic. Sorry for the pun. Very highly recommended.

Pines - Blake Crouch

Pines is the first novel in the Wayward Pines Trilogy. Three years later and there's a TV series. Books are always better. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Ethan Burke woke up in soft green grass, next to a flowing river. That was the good part. Ethan was seriously injured and couldn't remember much. By the time this installment of this story is over, Ethan will remember, and be horrified. Wayward Pines has that effect on people. At least if they survive. No spoilers here. This is a story with mysteries and twists and scary galore. Very highly recommended.

A Plain-Dealing Villain - Craig Schaefer

A Plain-Dealing Villain is the fourth novel in the Daniel Faust series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Now that the evils of Lauren Carmichael and Meadow Brand are dead and buried, FBI agent Harmony Black is focused on Daniel. Daniel needs some cash to keep is legs from being broken by his creditors, but Vegas is getting too dangerous right now. He's forced to take a job that's less than ideal. Daniel's going to Chicago to steal an ancient artifact. Chicago is a complicated place, and that's before you even take into account the occult community. Stealing from a necromancer is risky, and if anything can go wrong, with Daniel it usually will. Very highly recommended.

Escape Clause - John Sandford

Escape Clause is the ninth Virgil Flowers novel.

Virgil and Frankie are starting to get serious. They're enjoying a leisurely skinny dip in the swimming hole when Frankie's sister Sparkle drops into the swimming hole with her summer beau Father Bill. Sparkle explains how she's going to be snooping around some illegal immigrant operations for thesis research, and she and Bill are going to be staying with Frankie for a while.

Then Virgil's cell rings. Virgil always seems to get the "interesting" cases. This time two endangered Amur tigers were catnapped from the Minnesota zoo. The priority is to find them before somebody kills them and grinds them up for Asian medicine. Virgil has to abandon the swimming hole to hunt for tigers.

The tigers aren't the only things in danger though. Bodies start to pile up among the tiger thieves, and then Sparkle's snooping lands Frankie in the hospital. It's a fast paced adventure with some interesting twists. Very highly recommended. I just with Sandford wrote faster!

Beyond Eternity - Paul Deaver

Beyond Eternity is science fiction that centers around the ability to move through space with your mind. The trouble is you have to know where you're going. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

When Robert Stone's mother is literally on her death bed, he has to take a break. While Robert is walking and thinking he finds a man lying on the ground. The man seems to burn up and disappear, but a bracelet he was wearing mysteriously attaches itself to Robert's wrist. When Robert later wakes up from a nap, he's transported to a different world. One where freedom is an illusion. An illusion that the Patriarch would like to bring back to Robert's world. Robert will do anything he can to stop that. Highly recommended.

It is Gahan who pursues her around Barsoom and finally finds her prisoner of the Kaldane. Eventually they escape, with a Kaldane ally, but then are captured by the Manator. Tara is beginning to fall for Gahan, but before they can pursue their love, they have to escape or be rescued. That could take a long time. Highly recommended. I'll admit that all the chasing after and rescuing women is beginning to get old. Time for a change.

High school girls are being raped and murdered by a pack of teenagers. Nicole and Kent thought catching these kids would be easy, but easy is always relative.
