The story starts in Bialystok Poland. Deborah and Shayna were young Jewish girls. Deborah was dark and studied to be a witch. Shayna was blonde and studied to be a seamstress. Both girls were bright and promising, but Poland was a place of ignorance and prejudice and pogroms. The story of the two sisters would eventually bring them to America, to New York City. The superstitions of their early lives would follow them though. Escaping evil is never easy. This is a fascinating story. Very highly recommended.
