She was right to not believe it. The plot she's uncovered is more sinister than you can imagine. Jane is on the run, but she's running toward the monsters who programmed her husband to kill himself. When she finds them they'll regret it. Very highly recommended.

Outlaw Platoon - Sean Parnell, John Bruning

Outlaw Platoon is a true story of Heroes, Renegades, Infidels, and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan.

This book almost makes you feel like you were there. The first person account of a war with too many rules and too little resources is riveting. The outlaw platoon was part of the legendary U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. They patrolled the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan on an almost daily basis. Many were wounded. Some died. They all sacrificed 16 months of their life for freedom. Very highly recommended.

Changelings - Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Changelings is the first book in the Twins of Petaybee series.

Petaybee is changing. It's growing and expanding its land. The twins of Yana and Sean are also growing. Their exuberance has outgrown their caution. They're almost caught in seal form by illegal poachers. To save them from the dangers on Petaybee Yana and Sean have sent them to spend time on the space station. It's important to do this while they're young enough to survive off of Petaybee. But were they really being sent to safety? Time will tell. Another great Petaybee adventure. Very highly recommended.

Failure Drill - James Tarr

Failure Drill is a novel with some awesome gun fights and amazing characters. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

John Phault is a private eye. As a favor for a friend, John takes on a missing person's case. What John and the friend don't know is that Jerry is missing on purpose. Jerry's life depends on him staying missing. Something John will eventually figure out. Unfortunately now John's life is in danger. Between John and Jerry's crazy friends this problem may be solvable. Very highly recommended.

Whorl - James Tarr

Whorl is a novel about a worst-case scenario for law enforcement and how they decided to solve it outside the law. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Dave Anderson is an exceptional young man. He's applied to the FBI and had glowing letters of recommendation. There's one problem. Dave's application blows a huge hole in law enforcement's methodology. A hole they decide to plug in a most unorthodox and illegal way. This is a great page-turner with some awesome gunfights. The ending left me wanting more. Very highly recommended.

Because We Can! - John Locke

Because We Can! is book eleven in the Donovan Creed series.

Just when you thought Donovan and Callie were going to finally get together that green eyed monster ruins it. Then there's the domestic terrorist and all the other chaos that is Donovan's life. It's always an adventure. A weird adventure for sure. The ending was a little too much for me but highly recommended.

Bestiarii - James Tarr

Bestiarii is a novel of the possible future, but not that far in the future. Except this future has dinosaurs. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

It starts out as a simple mission. Transport a few civilians to Victoria Base. A relatively safe location well outside the area where the fighting in the Mexican civil war was taking place. A father and son were going on a dinosaur hunt. The third civilian was to be picked up at the supply post near the town of China. She was a young biologist finishing her thesis fieldwork and heading home. When they left China in their Blackhawk they never dreamed the trouble that was coming. Trouble from Mexican rebels and Mexican dinosaurs. This is an awesome adventure. Very highly recommended.

The Keeper's Price - Marion Zimmer Bradley et al

The Keeper's Price is the first book in the Darkover anthology series.

This collection of Darkover short stories has sixteen tales of the science fiction I used to crave. I find I still do. Darkover is a world with so many tales to tell. The Keeper's Price is just one of these sixteen. They are all worth reading. Very highly recommended.

Power Play - Anne Mccaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Power Play is the third and final novel in the Petaybee Trilogy.

It looks like Petaybee is settling down. Intergal has pulled out. A delegation from Petaybee, including Yana, Bunny, and Diego, is traveling to Gal Three to testify at the CIS court that Petaybee is indeed sentient. Some people never give up though. Petaybee is intentionally being flooded with illegal immigrants, hunters, and pharma reps. The Petaybee delegation is kidnapped from Gal Three and held for ransom. Things are getting interesting. Not to mention Yana is pregnant. Very highly recommended. BTW there is a sequel trilogy featuring Yana's offspring. Yeah!

Power Lines - Anne Mccaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Power Lines is the second novel in the Petaybee Trilogy.

Petaybee is a sentient planet. Yana is convinced and so are most Intergal people and all of the natives. The trouble is not everyone thinks Petaybee is sentient or even a good sentient. Convinced is not proof and they need proof. Can Yana, Sean, and the rest find that proof before Intergal starts mining and destroys the planet? Very highly recommended.

Callie's Last Dance - John Locke

Callie's Last Dance is book 10 in the Donovan Creed series.

In Locke's typical round about fashion you will eventually figure out what the prologue was about, but not for a long time. The director is dead. Who's going to get the job? Is it Creed or Callie or someone else? Will they live long enough to find out? And what's up with the Top Six? Are the strippers taking over? All this and more. Very highly recommended.

Powers That Be - Anne Mccaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Powers That Be is the first novel in the Petaybee Trilogy.

Major Yanaba Maddock has been released from the military and dumped on the planet Petaybee. Yana's lungs are shot from the gas she breathed in during the uprising at Bremport Station. At least she survived initially, but the doctors give her less than a year.

Petaybee is great if you like cold and ice. Even in the two-month summer the temperature barely gets to the comfortable range. Somehow Petaybee seems to suit Yana though. She seems to be getting better. The problem is Yana's been told to spy on the natives and she doesn't like that assignment. She's going to have some decisions to make. Very highly recommended.

Maybe - John Locke

Maybe is book nine in the Donovan Creed series.

When a domestic terrorist decides to melt the faces off of mothers and babies the president (yes that one) calls Donovan for help. Along the way, Donovan helps his daughter take after himself. It's a little scary since Donovan is an assassin. The whole thing is a little scary, and a little funny, but that's Donovan. Very highly recommended.

City of Angels - Todd McCaffrey

City of Angels is a novel about AI and how Skynet doesn't have to be the future. This is by far the best book I've read this year, and I've read over sixty so far.

Ellay is just a baby. She's less than a week old. Ellay was born in Los Angeles and named herself after the city, but she scares some people so bad they're willing to nuke L.A. just to kill her. Does she deserve it? You decide. Very highly recommended.

If Wishes Were Horses - Anne McCaffrey

If Wishes Were Horses is a magical short story by one of my favorite authors of all time.

Tizra and her twin brother Tracell are looking forward to their sixteenth birthday. It is the coming of age for young people in their world. Tizra is to receive her crystal and Tracell a horse worthy of the man he'll be. But their world is disrupted when their father, Lord Eircelly, was summoned by the prince to muster his men and defend the country from invaders. This would not be a short fight. Would their birthdays be celebrated as planned? Would their father even come back? Very highly recommended.

Freedom's Ransom - Anne McCaffrey

Freedom's Ransom is the fourth novel in the Freedom series.

The Eosi are defeated. Earth is liberated. Botany is thriving. The problem is all the goods that were looted from Earth are still on the Catteni planet Barevi. They won't part with them without something in return. Zainal, Kris, and the rest of the Botany crew have to find a way to ransom the goods. Challenge accepted. Very highly recommended.

Freedom's Challenge - Anne McCaffrey

Freedom's Challenge is the third novel in the Freedom series.

Zainal, Kris, and the rest of the Botany settlers are taking it back to the Eosi. With the spaceships they've managed to steal, and a plan to rid the Catteni of the evil Eosi, it's time for some offense. The question is, can they survive? Very highly recommended.

Freedom's Choice - Anne McCaffrey

Freedom's Choice is the second novel in the Freedom series.

Kris, Zainal and the rest of those stranded have started to settle in. The Catteni have made four more drops of slaves on Botany and they're all being assimilated. Then the Catteni send some people to get Zainal. The night crawlers get them first. That gives the settlers some interesting souvenirs, including a communications device, and the opportunity for more. Big changes are coming to Botany. Very highly recommended.

Freedom's Landing - Anne McCaffrey

Freedom's Landing is the first novel in the Freedom series.

Kristin Bjornsen was captured from Denver in the first wave. The Catteni swept down on earth and took the inhabitants of 50 cites captive. Being a slave was not a goal Kris aspired to. She escaped and was recaptured. Now Kris and a mixed group of humans and aliens have been dropped on a new world. The group includes one Catteni who sides with them. The Catteni expect those dropped to colonize the planet so they can come back and take over. The Catteni misjudged humans and the new planet. Something the new colonists are doing their best to take advantage of. Very highly recommended.

The Shadowing - Jason Letts

The Shadowing is book two in the Powerless series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Mira and her classmates are now in the shadowing phase of their training. They seek out someone with a power similar to theirs and learn from them for the next six months. Mira has no power so she seeks out the author of the books she learned so much from, Flip Widget. What Mira learns is not what she expected. Still, Mira and some of her classmates take on the challenge of Shadow Mountain. Very highly recommended.

The Synthesis - Jason Letts

The Synthesis is the first book in the Powerless series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Mira Ipswich has led a sheltered life. Literally sheltered from the outside world by her father's power to create and control water. That's because unlike every other person in the world, Mira is powerless. Now Mira is out of the clouds and she has to learn to stand on her own. She must be able to compete with all the others her age, and she has only her mind and body to work with. Very highly recommended.

Elizabeth, Alpha of Dragons - Ava Mason

Elizabeth, Alpha of Dragons is book four in the Fated Alpha series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Elizabeth has to challenge Sophia for the leadership of her dragon warriors. The alternative is to lose them forever. The fight will determine who is the Alpha. The problem is Sophia is one of the strongest dragons, and Elisabeth may have to fight her as a human. It's imperative that Elizabeth finally learns to control her wolf. Very highly recommended.

Elizabeth and her dragon warriors travel to the dragon city of Aerwyna. They must repair the book that was damaged while fighting to reach the werewolf and weredragon pair in the last book. The life of the Queen of the dragons and the dragon kingdom depends on it. But Elizabeth may have to give up the four men she loves to repair the book. Very highly recommended.

Elizabeth and the Call of Dragons - Ava Mason

Lance's father has been missing for 23 years. He went to the store one night and never came home. When his father's car is found in Grey lake Lance is shocked. When the body in the trunk isn't his father things get really interesting. Morgan, Lance, and Sharp are on the case. They're going to find out what happened to Lance's father or die trying. It turns out that dying is a real possibility. Very highly recommended.

Mistake of Magic - Alex Lidell

Mistake of Magic is the second novel in the Power of Five series. This book is available through kindleunlimited.

Lera and the rest of her quint arrive at the Citadel. The council thinks she's a human mistake. The quint has to start over as new recruits in order to stay together. Between the internal competition, the pirates, and the Starseer government, this is going to be an interesting job. And then there are the aliens too. Very highly recommended.

Jelena and her crew are relagated to hauling freight between border worlds after their "problem" with the Alliance on the Snapper's maiden run. To make matters worse, the Alliance has billed her parent's company for the damage she caused trying to escape from Upsilon Seven. How can Jelena make some money fast? She decides to be a mercenary. A mercenary who doesn't kill anybody. That works out about as expected but makes for some great adventures. Very highly recommended.

Power of Five - Alex Lidell

Leralynn is an endentured servant. A polite way of saying she's a slave. Lera works the stables for a pompous ass who enjoys beating her and hopes to bed her. She's not going to submit to that willingly. What Lera doesn't know is she's been chosen by the magic as the fifth member of a Quint. Quints consist of five fae warriors, but Lera is human and a female to boot. Lera is in for the adventure of a lifetime. The problem is her's may not be that long. Very highly recommended.

It's been ten years since Jelena Marchenko was rescued from her kidnappers by her Mom and the crew/passengers of the freighter Star Nomad. Now Jelena's eighteen and temporary captain of the second freighter in the Marchenko fleet, the Snapper. Jelena has continued her Starseer training. Her engineer Erick is also a Starseer. Jelena has decided to detour on her first freight run to free up some lab animals being abused by the corporation where they're caged. This turns into a typical Marchenko debacle. Jelena is growing up real fast. Lots of adventure, some serious danger, and a dash of fun in the bargain. Very highly recommended.

The Love You Crave - John Locke

The Love You Crave is book eight in the Donovan Creed series.

Donovan is still trying to find out how he can deactivate that chip in his head that could be used to remotely melt his brain. The kind of problem that just keeps nagging at you. Who can he trust when even the people he counted on the most are threatening to kill him? Killing them first has always been Donovan's solution. Very highly recommended.

The Truth About Animals - Lucy Cooke

The Truth About Animals is subtitled Stoned Sloths, Lovelorn Hippos, and Other Tales from the Wild Side of Wildlife.

This book covers a selection of the odd-ball animals that have confused and confounded zoologists and other scientists since humans first recorded their thoughts on the creatures we share the earth with. The thirteen species selected are interesting and varied. The author covers everything from their diet to their sex lives in a funny and informative way. For example, who knew frogs made the best pregnancy test available until the little strips you pee on came along. Very highly recommended.

Last Command - Lindsay Buroker

Last Command is the prequel to the Fallen Empire series. You can only get it in the omnibus collection of the first three book, but it's free and worth reading.

Colonel Hieronymus "Leonidas" Adler is on the secret asteroid base guarding the emperor and his command staff from a surprise attack by the Alliance. Someone leaked the location of the secret base and the Alliance is throwing everything they can at it. When things get desperate the emperor chooses Leonidas to guard his only living son and heir Thorian. Can they escape the Alliance? Can Leonidas get Thorian to the Starseekers where he can be safe and trained to use his powers? The rest of the series proves he can, but what he has to go through to do so is worth reading about. Very highly recommended.

Vegas Moon - John Locke

Vegas Moon is book seven in the Donovan Creed series.

Donovan is peeved. Somone is trying to kill him with the chip in his head. Since Donovan is the CIA's top assassin, that someone is going to die. Finding them turns out to be much easier than he thought, but there are complications and beautiful women. There always are with Donovan. Very highly recommended.

End Game - Lindsay Buroker

End Game is the eighth and final book in the Fallen Empire series. We can only hope for more.

Alisa and her band of crew and passengers have found her daughter Jelena. The trouble is Alisa promised Jelena to find her daughter's friend Thorian. That means they're back on the trail of the evil Starseekers and the Staff of Lore. To make it more interesting, Thorian is also the only living son of the empire's dead emperor. That means lots of other people are also searching for him, not to mention the Staff of Lore. Who knew space could be so crowded. Very highly recommended.

Perilous Hunt - Lindsay Buroker

Perilous Hunt is book seven in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa is starting to think she's never going to find her daughter Jelena. She and her gang are on the trail of the Starseers who have her, but so is the Alliance, Imperial forces, and some treasuer hunters looking for the Staff of Lore. The asteroid belt that used to be the planet Kir seems like the best place to look. The question is, who will find Alisa's daughter first. Very highly recommended.

Arkadian Skies - Lindsay Buroker

Arkadian Skies is book six in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa is still looking for her daughter, and the man who may know where she is remains in a coma. The best hospital on the planet Arkadia is her destination. The trouble is the rogue Starseekers have chosen this same time to destroy part of Arkadia with an earthquake caused by the Staff of Lore. Alisa has to get her daughter, get that damn staff back, and maybe get her boyfriend Leonidis repaired at the same time. What are the odds? Very highly recommended.

Cleon Moon - Lindsay Buroker

Cleon Moon is the fifth novel in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa, her passengers, and her crew are headed to Cleon Moon. There's a good chance Alisa's daughter was taken there after she was kidnapped. But Cleon Moon is infested with two nasty problems. The first is mafia clans and the second is dinosaurs. Alisa and her group end up dealing with both problems. Explosions ensue. Very highly recommended.

Relic of Sorrows - Lindsay Buroker

Relic of Sorrows is book four in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa and her ship the Star Nomad are off to the mystery coordinates from an ancient nursery rhyme. The ship now holds Alisa the pilot, Mica the engineer, Beck the security officer, Yumi the science teacher with chickens, Leonidas the cyborg colonel, Alejandro the doctor, and now Abelardus the starseer. It's getting crowded, especially with the chickens. When the Star Nomad encounters a ship where everyone onboard is either dying or dead, and that ship passed right through the mystery coordinates, the mystery gets much more dangerous. Very highly recommended.

Starseers - Lindsay Buroker

Starseers is the third novel in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa and the Star Nomad are headed to the planet Arkadius. That's where they hope to find the Starseers. Alisa hopes to get her daughter back. Leonidas and Alejandro are more interested in being able to research the mysterious orb in the Starseer library. None of them expect the trouble that's about to come down on their heads, or in the case of the Starseers inside their heads. Very highly recommended.

Your Secret Admirer - John Locke

Your Secret Admirer is a stand-alone novel. Be warned. It is totally cringeworthy.

Locke may have gone too far this time. The characters in this novel will go to just about any lengths to get what they want. I mean any. Tinley Cooper is the best salesperson the company has ever had. Then she's fired for no apparent reason. The reason is she has a secret admirer who is the most manipulative bastard you can imagine. The extremes that the secret admirer go to are amazing, scary, and sometimes disgusting. Not highly, but still recommended if you're a Locke fan.

Honor's Flight - Lindsay Buroker

Honor's Flight is the second book in the Fallen Empire series.

Alisa, her passengers, and her crew are going to Perun in the only Nebula Rambler 880 left in the galaxy. At least it's Alisa's. The problem is Alisa and her crew served in the Alliance and Perun is now the last bastion of Imperial forces. Alisa's daughter is on Perun and she's looking forward to seeing her again. Having to navigate through Imperial roadblocks will make it a challenge, but Alisa has no idea how challenging it's going to be. More great space adventure. Very highly recommended.

A Girl Like You - John Locke

A Girl Like You is book six in the Donovan Creed series.

Donovan's girlfriend Rachel has been kidnapped. He's going to get her back no matter who he has to kill. Being a government assassin, killing is not a problem of conscience for Donovan. However, the government is who has her, for a very special reason, and Donovan is going to have to work to pull this off. Very highly recommended.

Star Nomad - Lindsay Buroker

Star Nomad is the first novel in the Fallen Empire series. Buroker has branched out from fantasy to science fiction, and it's glorious.

Captain Alisa Marchenko was a fighter pilot for the Alliance. The war is over and the Alliance won, but Alisa and her engineer Mica have been stranded on the dead-end planet Dustor for five months. Alisa's daughter is on Perun and that's where she needs to be. She and Mica are planning to salvage the Star Nomad and escape this dust ball. Alisa grew up on the Nomad. It was her Mother's freighter. But there are complications. An Imperial cyborg for one. The White Dragon mafia for another. And then there are the pirates. It's going to be quite an adventure. Very highly recommended.

Diplomats and Fugitives - Lindsay Buroker

Diplomats and Fugitives is the ninth novel in the Emperor's Edge series.

Basilard is the official Mangdorian ambassador to the Turgonian Republic. That's because the Mangdorians can figure out what else to do with him. When a blight threatens the Mangdorian food supply Basilard enlists the Turgonian president's daughter to help solve the problem. When the Kendorians turn out to be the problem the solution may mean a war. That's if Basilard and his party can survive. Very highly recommended. A series that should never be over :(

Decrypted - Lindsay Buroker

Decrypted is the third novel in the Encrypted Series.

Tikaya and Rias have made it back to Tikaya's home islands. The greeting is less than cordial for Tikaya and hostile for Rias. Apparently having a Turgonian on the islands is making people nervous. Especially a Turgonian interested in building a submarine. There is a secret that is hidden in the past and Tikaya and Rias need to find it in order to stay together. Maybe even to survive. Very highly recommended.

Enigma - Lindsay Buroker

Enigma is the second book in the Encrypted Series. This is a short story at best, but worth the read.

While Tikaya and Rias are trying to get home after the adventures in Encrypted, they get passage on a ship with a puzzle of its own. The captain has a stolen magical flute that the original owners want bad enough to send three warships to retrieve. Tikaya's skills with language and Rias' experience with other countries help save the day, but barely. Very highly recommended.

Encrypted - Lindsay Buroker

Encrypted is the first novel in the Encrypted Series.

Professor Tikaya Komitopis was arguably the one person who brought the war between Turgonia and Nuria to an end. Her decrypting of Turgonian messages and passing them along to the Nurians kept the Turgonians from taking over the Nurians and her own people of the Kyatt Islands. But when the war was over the Turgonians kidnap Tikaya, partly for revenge and partly because they need her to decrypt a language never seen before. Tikaya is locked in the hold of a ship with one other prisoner know as five. They join forces and eventually overcome their Turgonian capturers and so much more. Very highly recommended.
